The question behind the brief
Mini and slim are not universal engineering standards. ZYN’s public comparison gives examples of 13 × 28 mm mini and 14 × 34 mm slim pouches, while VELO distinguishes its smaller mini from the longer slim format. Those are useful external shape references, not an interchangeable tooling specification or an endorsement of this site. Final dimensions must fit the proposed fill and evaluation criteria.
Make the comparison useful
Compare the length, width, filled thickness, nonwoven material and seal geometry together. A flat drawing does not reveal how the filled pouch handles or distributes material. Record both nominal targets and how the prototype is measured. If a brand asks for a larger custom shape, reassess fill capacity, comfort, sealing and packaging rather than assuming a scale-up preserves every property.
What to record
| Decision record | What the buyer should resolve |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Define nominal length, width and measurement conditions. |
| Filled shape | Evaluate thickness, distribution and handling. |
| Paper | Specify material and the relevant sensory or physical requirements. |
| Seal | Agree edge geometry, appearance and integrity checks. |
| Can fit | Confirm the pack count and usable headspace for the chosen shape. |
Turn findings into an action
Approve a physical reference sample alongside the drawing so the format name cannot hide a different filled-pouch experience.
For this project, put each unresolved item into the brief with an owner and an approval point. Ask the developer to explain the sample or document that will close it. Where the evidence is incomplete, keep that limitation visible in the decision record rather than allowing an assumption to become a label statement. Revisit the record when ingredients, pouch material, packaging or the intended market change.
